Memories Are Made of This by Simon Aronson
Over the past two decades, the landscape of magic has evolved significantly. When I published my first book, The Card Ideas of Simon Aronson in 1978, I revealed many innovative techniques involving the memorized deck. In the introductory essay of that chapter, I expressed a sense of “guilty pleasure” that few advanced cardicians had explored the potential of the memorized deck at that time.
However, that guilt has faded as the memorized deck has matured into a respected tool in the magic community. Recently, there has been a surge of interest from some of the most esteemed magical thinkers and performers worldwide. Lecturers at magic clubs across the country have been demonstrating incredible feats with memorized decks. This enthusiasm extends beyond professionals; I frequently encounter enthusiastic amateurs in magic chat rooms and conventions eager to share their creative twists and impressive accomplishments with memorized decks—many of which are truly remarkable! The growing momentum is infectious, leading to an explosion of effects, tips, variations, and new principles among cardicians utilizing memorized stacks.
I take pride in having inspired this renaissance, but the journey doesn’t end here. I am continuously developing new effects for the memorized deck, and it’s time for you to join this exciting movement.
