The Vanishing Airplane for Parlor and Stage
Discover the “Out to Lunch” magic principle, now reimagined in an impressive format!
This captivating illusion allows you to deliver a stunning performance without a hefty price tag. First introduced in the 1940s, the original “Out to Lunch” trick featured a card with a boy next to a rope. After a spectator signed the card, it dramatically revealed the boy’s disappearance, replaced by the phrase “Out to Lunch,” while still showcasing the initials.
Over time, numerous variations have been developed, all rooted in the same “Out to Lunch” concept.
Jason Palter’s TAKEOFF brings a contemporary flair to this classic, employing JUMBO cards perfect for both close-up and stage performances.
Enjoy the Fun and Commercial Appeal:
You start by expressing your ambition to perform a grand illusion reminiscent of magic icons like David Copperfield and Siegfried & Roy. With a touch of humor, you explain that a large-scale trick is currently out of reach (“I’m sorry folks, but buying an elephant or a Ferrari for this trick just isn’t feasible right now.”). But don’t worry! You’ll still dazzle them by making an airplane disappear, albeit in a “budget-friendly” manner.
Presenting a stack of 8.5 x 11″ cards, each featuring an airplane and an enthusiastic audience, you jokingly assure the audience that there will be no “switches” involved (“For example, I don’t want anyone swapping the plane for an inflatable version while you’re not looking!”). A spectator signs their name on the top card, right beneath the seated audience. You then place this card face-down on the table and invite the spectator to recite some magical words: “I wish I may, I wish I might, get this plane outta’ here tonight!”
When the spectator flips the card, they will be amazed to find the airplane has vanished, while their signature remains! They can take this card home as a cherished reminder of their extraordinary experience, proving they witnessed a magician make a plane disappear!
