Heads I Win Tails You Lose by David Devlin
This exceptional piece of mentalism is both impromptu and versatile, making it suitable for any performance situation.
Effect: The mentalist places a business card on the table, claiming a prediction lies beneath it, which will be revealed later. The performer then produces three imaginary coins: a nickel, a quarter, and a dime. The spectator is invited to visualize these coins and select one. For instance, if she chooses the quarter, she imagines flipping it and announces whether it lands heads or tails. If she calls heads, the card is lifted to reveal a quarter marked to confirm that the mentalist predicted the outcome from the start!
This routine is David’s innovative take on Max Maven’s “Positive/Negative,” featuring several enhancements:
- No switches involved
- Only one prediction
- No writing required
- No gimmicks used
- 99% impromptu (requires only a cover like a card or opaque tumbler, any coin, and a Sharpie Marker)
- No items are stolen
- No hidden elements
- All items are examinable and ungimmicked
- Everything can be given to the spectator as a keepsake
- Ideal for walk-around, table hopping, formal close-up, and even stage performances!
- No sleight of hand necessary
- Only one coin is concealed under the cover
You will absolutely love this routine and find opportunities to use it frequently!
