Flame Revelation was originally developed by mediums in the 1920s, as noted by Al Mann. These mediums believed that spirits often manifested through fire, using this technique for spirit writing to demonstrate contact with the deceased. While a few magicians have utilized this method in the past, it has largely faded from memory. Devin Knight has revitalized this secret, enhancing it for his performances in restaurants and psychic fairs. Even seasoned practitioners will discover new insights and tips from a performer with years of experience.

All effects can be executed using a standard packet of safety matches, with no chemicals involved! After each performance, the spectator can keep the match as a memorable souvenir.

THINK OF A NUMBER: A spectator freely chooses a number between 1 and 20. The performer lights a match and instructs the spectator to focus on their number. After blowing out the match, the burnt head reveals the chosen number!

REVEAL A SELECTED CARD: After a card is selected and returned to the deck (let’s say the 5 of Clubs), the performer lights a match and has the spectator concentrate on their card. Once the match is extinguished, it is handed to the spectator, revealing a black 5 on one side and a C for clubs on the other — the match unveils the selected card.

ESP: The spectator secretly selects an ESP card without revealing the symbol. The performer lights a match, asking the spectator to focus on their symbol. After extinguishing the match, the selected symbol appears on the burnt head.

INITIALS: This is Devin’s favorite effect, performed weekly during his restaurant gigs for seven years. The performer approaches a stranger and asks for their first name. After lighting a match, the spectator concentrates on the first letter of their name. Assuming the name is Tom, the burnt match head reveals a T, which is then given to the spectator as a keepsake. This effect can be repeated at the next table with different results!

MEDIUM STUNTS: Ideal for those engaging in psychic fairs and channeling spirits.

ANSWERS FROM BEYOND: The spectator thinks of a simple yes or no question for the spirit world. The question can be spoken or written down. The performer lights a match, and after blowing it out, a Y for yes or an N for no appears on the burnt match head, or even an M for maybe.

THE DEAD SPEAK: A classic stunt from old-time mediums. The spectator writes down the name of a deceased relative they wish to contact. The performer lights a match and burns the paper while the spectator concentrates on the deceased. The match extinguishes on its own, revealing an initial on the burnt head, which corresponds to the dead person’s first name — a chilling demonstration of contact.

THE CROSS PLOY: A lesser-known stunt shared by the late Al Mann. While channeling a deceased individual, the performer asks if they are in a good place and to provide a sign. The match is lit, and as the performer requests a sign, it goes out by itself. The burnt head displays a small Christian cross, suggesting that the departed loved one is in Heaven, often bringing tears to the sitter’s eyes.
