“As a long-time enthusiast of the ACAAN plot, I was fortunate to connect with Tommy Guglielmi, who shares this passion and offers some of the most ingenious handlings I’ve encountered. Many of these techniques are hands-off and impromptu. Among them, Subtle Scam stands out as a remarkable creation. I’ve performed this and its variations to various audiences, and the reactions have been incredible. Has Tommy discovered the holy grail of ACAAN? Perhaps, but this is certainly a strong contender!” – David Gemmell
“Tommy’s insights into ACAAN and Open Prediction are invaluable. Subtle Scam provides a straightforward, practical method that is refreshingly direct. I’m excited to see how Tommy’s card explorations continue to evolve.” – T. Baxter
“I’ve watched this project develop over time. Tommy’s clever thinking captured my interest from the start, and the final product is a fantastic collection of innovative ideas and subtle techniques related to the popular CAAN and ACAAN plots. Subtle Scam is essential reading for anyone interested in this thought-provoking card challenge.” – Peter Duffie
The performer sets out to demonstrate two classic card effects: ACAAN and Think of a Card.
He invites the first spectator to name any card and any number, while the second spectator shuffles a borrowed deck. Once shuffled, the second spectator is asked to think of one card from the deck.
The first spectator then counts down to their named number, revealing the named card at that position.
After the ACAAN effect, the magician spreads the deck on the table and asks the second spectator to verify the location of their card while he turns away. In a classic reveal, he successfully divines the thought-of card.
This method requires no stooges or pre-show work and can be performed with any deck.
The updated version includes two additional effects: “Mind Scam” and “Game Over.”
Bonus Effect: OPARN
This is a straightforward hands-off Open Prediction effect:
The performer asks a spectator to shuffle a borrowed deck and makes an open prediction. A number is then randomly selected. The spectator deals the cards face-up, placing the card at the selected number face-down, while continuing to reveal the remaining cards face-up.
The only card face-down will be the prediction.
