The Gift

The Gift is an engaging card trick that combines humor with a touching narrative. The magician shares a story about how his daughter decided to surprise him by marking some cards. “The good news is she used a blue marker… the bad news is she chose a red-backed deck.” He reveals a deck of cards where the identities are humorously inscribed in bold blue text on the backs. “That’s the bad news… but the worse news is that the markings don’t correspond to the face values at all.” He demonstrates that the backs of the cards do not match the faces.

Next, two cards are selected in a completely fair manner, including one chosen by an audience member. When the magician reveals the second card, it doesn’t match the expected outcome. “I was hoping for a surprise… I guess I should have been more specific.” After a brief pause, he reveals that the markings on the backs of the cards correspond to the face of the other card.

In a stunning finale, the magician waves his hands over the deck, causing all the writing on the backs to disappear. “Now that’s a gift I can actually use.”
