The magician presents four unmarked manila envelopes, displaying them openly on both sides. He informs a participant that each envelope contains a differently colored card: green, red, blue, and yellow. The participant then mixes the envelopes, ensuring neither knows the contents.

The performer asks the participant to select the envelope they believe holds the green card, writing “green” on it with a black marker in plain sight. This process is repeated for the red and blue envelopes, with the participant observing each color being written. One envelope remains in the participant’s hand.

Jokingly, the performer inquires, “Which envelope do you think contains the yellow card?” The participant chooses the last envelope. While it may seem like a limited choice, it’s significant, as no one could predict which envelope would be left. The performer requests the participant to hold onto it for now.

Three envelopes, marked with their respective colors, are placed on the table. The performer opens the green envelope, revealing the green card, which is shown to the audience before being placed on the table. The envelope is then displayed as empty. This process is repeated for the red and blue envelopes, with the participant correctly identifying each card. All three guesses are spot on!

The climax is yet to come. The performer emphasizes that he has not touched the remaining envelope and that no one could have anticipated which one would be chosen last.

“Clearly, the yellow card must be in that envelope. Please take it out. Additionally, there’s a slip of paper inside. Unlike the other envelopes, this one is special. Please read aloud what it says.”

The slip reads, “I knew this envelope would be your last choice.”

At this moment, the participant can inspect all four envelopes and the colored cards, finding nothing amiss. The conclusion is consistent every time, with no alternate endings.
