Join us for a special evening as Andrew Paul (Andy Smith) presents his inaugural Alakazam Online Academy course, Missing Pieces.
Missing Pieces encapsulates Andrew’s extensive experience and passion for magic, honed over 20 years as a professional magician. He will delve into sleight of hand, practice, misdirection, presentation, and his journey into stand-up magic, incorporating comedy and humor into your performances. Alongside his insights, Andrew will demonstrate the following effects, routines, and techniques:
Andy’s Opener
This opening sequence is crafted to establish your presence with the audience. In the context of a card effect, you’ll build rapport and turn an apparent failure into a surprising moment of magic right before their eyes.
The Slow Motion Coin Vanish
A mesmerizing slow-motion vanish of a coin, inspired by the late Geoff Latta, perfect as a lead-in to an extended coin routine.
Stand Up and Be Counted
Four spectators join you on stage, and as you count cards from a shuffled deck into their hands, they can call stop at any moment. Each spectator will reveal an Ace in their packet, showcasing the power of free choice.
Silkworm
The magician displays a silk that vanishes with a wand wave, only to reappear in the spectator’s jacket sleeve! This effect is repeated, with the spectator retrieving the silk themselves. Building on the work of Roger Klaus and Gary Kurtz, this close-up magic always elicits a fantastic reaction.
Focus Session
A discussion on sleight of hand with cards, covering timing, core moves, and various techniques essential for mastering card magic.
TEA BREAK (and biscuits!)
Back To Source
Two cards and four coins assemble one at a time, reversing in the blink of an eye! Andrew’s streamlined take on the reverse matrix plot, inspired by his friend Etienne Pradier, delivers visual magic at its finest.
Trading Places
Andrew’s preferred handling of the Interchange plot involves two named and signed four-of-a-kinds. The Kings are placed in separate pockets while the Fives are held in hand. Instantly, the Fives transform into the Kings, which are then removed from the pockets. The spectator chooses either the Kings or Fives, and the selected set vanishes from their hands, reappearing in the magician’s pockets. This visual magic is both impactful and easy to perform.
Da Coins Across, Init!
A classic coins across plot featuring the Pop ‘N’ Go move, a new sleight designed specifically for this effect.
The Himberwitz Change
A coin tossed between hands visibly changes from copper to silver and back again in an instant. This effect combines concepts from Jerry Sadowitz and Richard Himber.
