Sleeve Subway by Ken De Courcy
A captivating card-up-the-sleeve routine that begins with standard playing cards and transitions to JUMBO cards.
This routine is easy to master, making it a joy to learn and perform. It includes Ken de Courcy’s original fully illustrated instructions, based on a concept by R. M. Jamison, along with complete patter for delivering this intriguing and entertaining effect.
The performance unfolds as follows:
The magician presents three cards: a Two of Hearts, a Three of Diamonds, and a notably different Ace of Spades. Each card is displayed front and back; the red cards feature red backs, while the Ace has a blue back.
The performer states, “Magicians often face accusations of hiding things up their sleeves, and tonight, I’ll demonstrate how it’s done.”
Separating the three cards, the magician indicates the route the Ace will take, from the mouth of the sleeve to the top inside the armpit.
The Ace is placed back between the two red cards, which are squared up. After a brief moment at the sleeve’s opening, the cards are separated again, revealing only the two red cards. With an apparently empty hand, the magician reaches into the jacket near the armpit and retrieves a blue-backed card. When revealed, it’s the Ace of Spades, which is then returned to the red cards.
This sequence is repeated, with the Ace traveling up the sleeve and being replaced once more between the other two cards.
Next, in line with the patter, three jumbo cards are introduced. Despite their size, the Ace of Spades ascends the sleeve just as effortlessly!
