Chris Brown – The Optimus Shuffle

Episode VIII – The Optimus Shuffle is a unique card move I developed six years ago. I later realized it bears similarities to Eric Anderson’s “Shufflesque” from his collaboration with David Harkey in the book “Ah-Ha.” A special thanks to my mentor, Brian Hart, for uncovering this reference.

This shuffle stands out due to its distinctive ending. Unlike other false shuffles that have their own stylistic conclusions, the Optimus Shuffle is crafted for the contemporary flourisher who desires smooth transitions between moves, creating a visual spectacle. Alongside the false shuffle, I also demonstrate the Optimus Cut and the Optimus false cut, ensuring your cuts appear seamless if you choose to incorporate them into your routine.

The standard cuts I provide mimic the appearance of the false shuffle’s strip-out finish. Historical card handlers like Guy Hollingworth, Hofzinser, and Heinstein have developed their own techniques to achieve similar effects. The finish of the Optimus Shuffle is reminiscent of Alejandro Portella’s style, where the packets elegantly hinge together, creating a sleek and fluid motion.
