Trinities By Michael Daniels
Trinities is an engaging two-phase mind-reading performance. In the first phase, the mentalist accurately reveals the attributes (color, suit, value) of playing cards that the spectator has shuffled, dealt, and concealed while the mentalist is turned away. The second phase can stand alone, where the spectator creates a page number by combining the values of freely chosen cards from the deck. Without the mentalist’s sight, the spectator opens and examines an eBook (standard PDF) from a collection of classic literature on a computer, eBook reader, or smartphone. Upon reaching the selected page, a word is chosen, which the mentalist identifies flawlessly.
Phase 1 – Trinities Card Divination
- Hands-off presentation – the spectator shuffles and deals the cards.
- Utilizes a standard deck – no gaffs, duplicates, or marked cards. The deck is fully examinable.
- Self-working – requires no sleights.
- No peeks, fishing, equivoque, or confederates involved.
Phase 2 – Trinities Book Test
The PDF collection includes ten eBooks: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Mark Twain), A Tale of Two Cities (Charles Dickens), Dracula (Bram Stoker), Gulliver’s Travels (Jonathan Swift), Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen), Robinson Crusoe (Daniel Defoe), Sense and Sensibility (Jane Austen), The House of the Seven Gables (Nathaniel Hawthorne), The Last of the Mohicans (James Fenimore Cooper), and Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte).
Each eBook contains at least 400 pages of the original texts, allowing for thorough reading. The spectator has complete freedom in choosing a book, and the mentalist remains unaware of the selection.
The spectator decides the page number and can change their mind at any time. No additional props or gimmicks are required, and the effect can be repeated immediately for the same audience with different selections. Nothing is written down, and the routine is entirely self-working, requiring minimal memory work (approximately one hour to master). Alternatively, it can be performed without any memory work.
This effect can be executed using a standard computer, eBook reader (capable of viewing PDFs), or smartphone. The only software needed is a PDF reader (e.g., Adobe Reader, Repligo) with a ‘Go To Page’ feature (not included). The mentalist does not need to touch or see the device; everything unfolds in the spectator’s hands!
