Unlock the Secrets of the Lexicon Phenomena

Note that you will receive only the instructions for this effect, not the Reader’s Digest Enrich Your Word List booklet, the ungimmicked Webster’s New World Dictionary, or any prompter cards. However, these instructions enable you to adapt the effect to any dictionary in any language.

This 1976 Al Mann Exclusive is celebrated as one of his most brilliant book tests. Utilizing an “Enrich your vocabulary” list found within a dictionary, two spectators independently select one of 400 word pairs. Each participant chooses a word and verifies its meaning in the dictionary. The mentalist remains unaware of the selected words and does not touch the dictionary, even standing at a distance while the spectators confirm their choices. Remarkably, once they understand the meanings, he reveals their thoughts! No notes, no hidden secrets. To maintain confidentiality, the instructions were printed by two separate printers in different states, ensuring that even they were oblivious to the secret! Al Mann recognized the power of a great idea, and this is undoubtedly one of his finest.

While this may not be inexpensive, the ingenuity of the secret justifies the investment. Al intended this to be exclusive to dedicated performers. He noted: “The Lexicon Phenomena test was showcased at the M.A.E.S. convention in Atlantic City in 1977, leaving the audience in awe, yet they were skeptical of what they witnessed. They suspected the spectator was a confederate. In Columbus, Ohio, a woman fainted during mentalist Bobby Hughes’s masterful presentation of the Lexicon Phenomena. The system behind this test has already been adapted for several foreign languages…”
