Mind Reading Magic: The Fifth Card Revelation

Guide your spectator into a relaxing visualization exercise. Ask her to close her eyes and picture a long corridor leading to a door. Upon entering the plain room at the end, she notices a row of playing cards on the wall. She takes a seat on a simple wooden chair. When she opens her eyes, you hold the deck of cards and invite her to name the cards she visualizes, one by one. As she calls out, for example, the two of spades, jack of diamonds, three of clubs, four of diamonds, and nine of clubs, you lay them face up on the table, perfectly mirroring her mental image. After six or seven cards, you pause.

Surprisingly, the cards match her thoughts exactly! You explain that you’ve already visited the room in her mind. As you turn the cards face down, you reveal the first, second, and so on, until you reach the fifth card. You skip it momentarily, turning the sixth face down before returning to the fifth.
