Historically, voodoo was used as a healing practice, utilizing dolls to cure the sick. Over time, this practice shifted from healing to causing harm. In this captivating effect, you present a stack of blank business cards while narrating a story about voodoo. You draw a stick figure on five cards, symbolizing living individuals. One card is handed to a spectator, who writes their name on it. You explain that you will perform a ritual similar to those in Africa, but without causing any harm—only damaging paper.

The spectator holds the cards and thinks of a number between one and four. Once they reveal their number, you ignite the card with their name. You then ask if they felt anything while holding the cards. After that, they are instructed to lift their hand and deal the number of cards they chose. To their astonishment, only one card is burnt, and it bears their name!

This impromptu voodoo effect can be performed anytime and anywhere with minimal preparation. Once you master the technique, you can adapt it for various performances.
