Jamy Ian Swiss is a multifaceted expert: a scholar, critic, historian, and performer. In this Masterclass, he focuses on card techniques, offering crucial insights into some of the most misused and misunderstood sleights in card magic. With decades of teaching experience, Swiss simplifies complex sleight-of-hand techniques into manageable steps for all skill levels. This is a unique opportunity to learn from one of the most respected figures in magic, as he shares his extensive repertoire of sleights.
The first lesson is a masterclass on Palming:
You’ll master Vernon’s Topping the Deck (the correct method), the Erdnase Top and Bottom Palms, and an “Easy-going Bottom Palm.” Swiss will highlight a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of palming: how to seamlessly return the palmed card to the deck. We will explore various palm replacements by Erdnase, Marlo, Thompson, Vernon, Carlyle, Latta, and others, learning how to reintegrate the card from different positions. Swiss will demonstrate and teach tricks such as Paul LePaul’s “Quadruplicate Mystery,” Vernon’s “Travelers,” and Schwarzman/Jennings’ “Night Visitor.”
The second lesson is all about the Pass:
Whether you’re new to this sleight or looking to refine your skills, Swiss provides insightful instruction aimed at mastery. You’ll learn the Turnover Pass, The Taylor/Elias Jiggle Pass, Derek Dingle’s Stroboscopic Riffle Pass, Latta’s “Missing Frame” Riffle Pass, and various other techniques. This course goes beyond just the moves; you’ll engage with pass-centric material that applies these sleights in practice, including Jim Swain’s “Passing Along the Vanishing Aces,” Latta’s “Vanishing Collectors,” and Swiss’s original “Slapping the Cavorting Aces.”
This Masterclass covers a wealth of intriguing material, and Swiss is the ideal instructor to guide you through it.
