Eddy Ray – Mental Note

Format: PDF

More than 50 years ago, Ted Annemann introduced a groundbreaking technique known as the center tear, allowing mentalists to secretly access information written by spectators. This method quickly became a staple in the mentalism community.

For decades, the center tear has been regarded as the most effective and deceptive way to obtain confidential information. But now, there’s a revolutionary alternative: Eddy Ray’s Mental Note.

Let’s be clear—Mental Note renders the center tear obsolete.

This innovative approach enables a wide range of effects, but the core concept is simple:

A spectator thinks of any geometric shape, ESP symbol, or number. You present a stack of post-it notes and draw a circle on one of them. The spectator then takes the notepad and, while you look away, draws their chosen shape or number inside the circle.

The notepad is then handed to a second spectator, who removes the drawing, folds it tightly, and places it in their pocket.

At no point do you peek at the drawing. The second spectator can keep both the notepad and the drawing. This can even be performed one-on-one without needing a second spectator.

No shiners or reflective devices are used, and the notepad can be borrowed. All props are ordinary and unprepared, ensuring a natural presentation.

There’s no fishing involved; you know exactly what’s on the pad. No forces or stooges are necessary, and you finish clean—there’s nothing left to discover.

This effect can be repeated, and the paper can be folded, torn, or even burned without any issues.

If you currently use a center tear, you understand its limitations. Handling the paper extensively can lead to audience suspicion about glimpsing its contents. Additionally, the specialized paper used isn’t something you typically carry around. Lastly, the center tear often leaves you with some messy work to clean up.
