A deck of cards is laid out face up on the table. You remove one card and invite a spectator to freely name any card from the deck. After they make their choice, you gather the remaining cards, turn them face down, and reveal that the backs are blank. When you flip over your selected card, a drawing of a lock is visible. To their astonishment, when the spectator reveals their chosen card, it features a matching drawing of a key that unlocks the lock.
Regardless of the card they choose, it will always display a drawing in permanent marker that corresponds with your card. All cards are completely ordinary, and the chosen card with the key is just a single, standard card as well. The key is genuinely drawn in permanent marker, adding to the magic of the effect.
