Pop Haydn LIVE (Penguin LIVE)

Revitalized for the modern era.

“Haydn captivates with his unique storytelling style—it’s infectious, and audiences adore it. His magic is performed flawlessly.” – Dai Vernon (the “Professor”) Genii – The International Conjuror’s Monthly

“You are not just a magician; you are a remarkable actor!” – Alan Alda “Haydn is among the finest close-up magicians I’ve encountered…” – Merv Griffin “In my view, Pop is one of the few magicians, alongside Darwin Ortiz, who truly grasps magic as both an art and a theatrical experience. Their opinions on my work are invaluable.” – Michael Vincent

What Will He Teach?

Close-Up:

  • Chicago Surprise: Pop’s take on the Chicago Opener/Red Hot Mama features an additional magical element and an unforgettable conclusion.

  • Impromptu Card Code/Routine for the Blind: An impromptu ESP act where a blind participant plays the psychic role.

  • ESP Survey: A street scam that can generate income for performers during cold weather.

  • Fast and Loose: Pop’s acclaimed routine for the Endless Chain is considered one of the best.

  • Intricate Web of Distraction: Pop’s color-changing knives routine will inspire you to dust off your own and start performing.

Standup and Stage:

  • Multiple Peeked Card to Pockets: Participants peek at cards, which appear in different pockets, switch places, and then a card repeatedly jumps to Pop’s pocket. A challenging sleight-of-hand routine!

  • Mongolian Pop Knot: Learn the infamous knot that seemingly restores two pieces of rope into one… or does it?

  • Four Ring Routine: Pop’s engaging routine for the linking rings showcases his ability to extract maximum entertainment from this timeless classic!

Who Is He?

Whit “Pop” Haydn is a six-time “Performer of the Year” award winner from the Magic Castle, the prestigious hub of the Academy of Magical Arts. In February 2006, he became Vice-President of this organization, serving for four years. He has shared the stage with Jerry Seinfeld, the Smothers Brothers, and Loretta Lynn, and has performed on various cruise lines, including Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth 2 and Diamond Princess. Haydn has graced hotels and casinos like Caesars Tahoe and was among the first to perform at Caesar’s Magical Empire in Las Vegas in 1996. He served as the chief magic consultant for the film Bogus, featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Gerard Depardieu, and Haley Joel Osment, and has contributed to several television documentaries, including the Discovery Channel’s “Houdini, People Came to See Him Die” and David Copperfield’s “Orient Express.” He also consulted for episodes of “Franklin and Bash” (Sony) and “Bunheads” (ABC Family), and appeared as a gambling expert on “Haunted Collector” (Discovery). Haydn studied acting under Robert Leonard and Allan Rich and spent two years with the touring improvisational group The Road Co. He has acted in various plays in Los Angeles and is a published poet, with works featured in Tar River Poets and Trio in Gold. In 1996, he co-founded School for Scoundrels with Chef Anton, offering courses at the Magic Castle on street scams like the Shell Game and Three Card Monte. The School also markets books, DVDs, and props related to these classic hustles. Pop Haydn is committed to revitalizing live variety entertainment, and his show Pop Haydn in the 21st Century! reimagines the traditional 19th Century Medicine Show for today’s audience.
