Dee Christopher – Proximity Effects
Dee Christopher introduces ‘Proximity Effects’, a compilation of innovative effects and routines from the underground magic scene.
Renowned for his unique blend of mentalism and visual magic, Dee Christopher’s Proximity Effects features an array of impactful card routines. Experience stunning visual magic with “Deviance,” where a pip from a signed card appears to penetrate a glass window. Delve into the darker realms of mentalism with “Cold,” a telepathy effect where you reveal a card merely thought of by a spectator. Additionally, Dee shares his impromptu book test, “Words that Go Unspoken,” and a clever solution for those tricky spoon bending moments. Each routine is designed to be accessible, allowing you to focus on your presentation—crucial for performing at this level.

EFFECTS
Cold – The Telepathy Cards
A shuffled deck is presented, and five cards are dealt into a pile. The spectator merely thinks of one card, which remains unspoken and untouched. The magician eerily reveals the thought-of card, with the first mention of its value coming from the magician.
Words That Go Unspoken – Impromptu Book Test
The spectator selects a book, which the magician flips through to confirm the uniqueness of each page. A random page number is chosen, and the magician accurately divines the first substantial word on that page, demonstrating remarkable precision—even revealing illustrations or captions if present.
The Synthetic Arc Technique (Impromptu Spoon Bend)
This routine is perfect for those unexpected moments when you need to perform a spoon bend. If you can use a traditional bending method, it’s recommended, but this routine serves as a reliable alternative.
Solitary Confederate (Invisible Deck Routine)
A dynamic routine that revitalizes your performances with an invisible deck!
Deviance – Visual Pip Through Window
A spectator selects and signs a card, which is fully examinable. The magician then draws attention to a glass surface, slapping the signed card against it. In a stunning moment, one pip visually penetrates the glass and lands in the magician’s hand.
Shift – Signed Card Transportation
This elegant card transportation effect is simple yet powerful. With the right presentation, it can become a miraculous moment. The spectator signs a card, which is lost in the deck, only to be revealed moments later from the magician’s pocket or wallet—no palming required!
“You certainly have some thought-provoking theories. The overall concepts are fascinating, and it’s refreshing to see you expand on ideas previously explored by Banachek and Kenton Knepper, adding your unique dimensions.”—Adrian Sullivan (Creator of Eliminator)
“My goal in writing this was to compile effects that inspire magicians. This book presents powerful routines I use daily, stripping away unnecessary sleights to focus on presentation.”—Dee Christopher on Proximity Effects
