The Gerats Principle allows you to perform a captivating effect:

With two decks on the table, after spectators cut the decks, the magician can reveal whether there will be matching cards at specific positions without touching the cards. If matches exist, the magician can also identify the exact cards and their positions.

This principle was initially designed for memorized decks but has been adapted for non-memdeck performers through a unique presentation and a simple technical adjustment. Now, even those who don’t use a memorized deck can enjoy this effect.

Indeed, this presentation transforms the performance into a humorous experience. When using two decks, the principle operates independently of the stack. With one deck, it relies on a rosary stack, allowing the performer to identify matching pairs in the two halves instead of exact matches. This guarantees two pairs of matching cards, resulting in a four-of-a-kind.

The effect can be showcased as a demonstration of remarkable memory or mental prowess. Included is a two-deck memory routine with four phases that works with any stack, as well as a five-phase routine with one deck that is stack-dependent. Both routines build in intensity, culminating in a powerful impact. Additionally, the principle can be applied to number predictions.

A bonus effect, “The Really Smart Phone,” features a card-finder app that impresses the audience.

Memdeck performers will likely gain the most from the Gerats Principle, discovering even more applications for it.

For those familiar with Eddie Joseph’s Invisible Influence, it’s important to note that the Gerats Principle guarantees control over the matching cards, eliminating chance. You inform the spectators of the matching cards and their positions before any dealing occurs. Furthermore, the methods of Invisible Influence and the Gerats Principle are fundamentally different.

Reviews

“I like it, yet another path to explore in the memdeck universe.”Pit Hartling

“Ferry Gerats’s presentations are always, to me at least, as valuable as the tricks themselves. And as usual, Mr. Gerats gives you a script that has humor and helps conceal the methodology while actually helping the magician do the sneaky stuff. His script also involves the spectators in a way that is a perfect jumping off point for inserting your own sense of humor into the proceedings. He even has a couple of presentational ideas in this script that would allow an easy segue into your next trick or tricks. Well done…again.”Larry Brodahl
