Club 71: A Journey Through Magic History
Club 71 was a bimonthly magic periodical created by Geoff Maltby for Repro Magic in Great Britain, launching its first winter issue in 1970.
The publication ran until 1978, concluding after 14 issues.
In 1984, Maltby enlisted Walt Lees to help revive the magazine, leading to the release of three additional issues. The magazine’s popularity grew, resulting in more frequent publications each year.
By 1998, “Club 71” evolved into “Club 71 Magician’s Magazine,” producing around 20 issues before rebranding to “Club 71 For The Magician.” After another 20 issues, it was simplified to just The Magician, with its final edition released in 2007.
Additionally, in 1998, Maltby released a humorous supplement titled “Abra Codabra,” which parodied the well-known magic magazine Abra.
