Dr. Franz Polgar (April 18, 1900 – June 1979) was a distinguished psychologist, hypnotist, lecturer, and entertainer. Hailing from Enying, Hungary, he obtained his PhD in Psychology from the University of Budapest. In his 1951 autobiography, Polgar asserted that he served as Sigmund Freud’s “medical hypnotist” in 1924, collaborating closely with Freud for six months and aiding in the treatment of his patients. After immigrating to the United States in 1935, he refined his hypnotic techniques while performing in New York City’s speakeasy bars. He married Lillian in 1938, who later took on the roles of his booking and publications manager. Together, they had two children, Julian and Risa.
