Mike Caveney – Wonders
Over the last five years, I have dedicated myself to creating a comprehensive set of books that encapsulate my entire performance journey. Initially, I never anticipated that the final work would span 700 pages across two volumes. As a passionate collector of magic literature, I aimed to produce a legacy that reflects my dedication to the craft. Now that the books are complete, I can confidently say they exceed my expectations.
While I could detail the methods, theories, history, and amusing anecdotes behind each routine, I faced a challenge in illustrating them effectively. Fortunately, my longtime friend and Hollywood special effects expert, Bill Taylor, stepped in to help. He transformed my basement into a professional photo studio, and for fourteen months, we captured countless images. The resulting photographs are the clearest visual aids I have encountered in any magic book, and with both volumes printed in vibrant color, every intricate detail shines through.
Volume I, titled “Mike Caveney Wonders,” showcases all the routines I have performed, tracing back to my teenage years with the Long Beach Mystics, right up to my current acts featuring Magic Paper, The Bow & Arrow, and Scissors, Coat, Silverware & Chicken. This book is more than just a how-to guide; it delves into the creative processes behind each routine. For instance, in the case of Magic Paper (the torn, restored, and animated toilet paper), I share all five methods I experimented with, explaining why I ultimately favored the fifth method for nearly three decades. My aim is to inspire readers to develop their own original routines. A glance at the table of contents reveals a diverse array of material.
