This is the favorite ‘book’ of Gaetan Bloom. This monthly magic journal ran for just two years, producing 24 issues filled with exceptional ideas primarily focused on close-up magic. While most effects are attributed to Frank Chapman, notable contributions come from talents like Charlie Miller and Nate Leipzig.
To provide insight into Frank’s vision, here’s an excerpt from the inaugural issue:
Magic has been my passion for over twenty-five years. Though I occasionally perform for a fee, I consider myself an amateur magician. My goal is to keep my hobby self-sustaining and to respect those who earn a living from magic. I charge a premium fee, which elevates my performances and yours. This publication, “Scrapbook,” is dedicated to club and pocket magic, featuring effects from my personal archives that I believe will be valuable and practical for you. Alongside my creations, you will occasionally receive exclusive material from others, all meeting my high standards. I aim for “Scrapbook” to be worth at least double your investment, and I welcome your feedback. If an effect requires a special gimmick, I will provide it, as long as it’s not prohibitively expensive. I’m not interested in literary disputes; instead, I want to ensure “Scrapbook” remains a quality publication. There’s no set number of tricks per issue; some months may have more than others, but you will always receive exceptional value. I hope to grow this publication and reward my loyal subscribers. “Scrapbook” is designed to cater to the rising demand for bar and pocket magic. Are we ready? Then let’s begin!
