Luke Jermay – Emotional Intelligence
Phase 1: Start Simple
The performer embarks on a journey to read a spectator’s mind.
A selection of index cards, business cards, or napkins is presented, each featuring an emotionally charged word. After mixing the cards, a spectator chooses one and recalls a moment when they felt that emotion.
Initially, the performer begins to sense the emotion vaguely, akin to a psychic reading, but gradually becomes more precise, ultimately identifying the emotion accurately.
Phase 2: Build on It
In this phase, the performer aims to transfer their psychic abilities to a spectator.
One spectator picks an emotion card and reflects on a personal experience tied to that emotion. With guidance from the performer, a second spectator successfully intuits and names the emotion the first is contemplating.
Phase 3: Make It Meaningful
The performer strives to reveal specific details from a spectator’s life.
After mixing the cards, a spectator selects one and is prompted to think of a name and a time period linked to their chosen emotion.
Equipped with a notepad and pen, the performer meticulously writes down the details they perceive from the spectator’s life. Their insights are precise, documented to eliminate any doubt.
The performer’s accuracy astonishes the spectator, culminating in an emotionally charged climax that can unfold in various ways. The performer guarantees at least three hits.
A Framework for Cold Reading
Emotional Intelligence offers a structured approach with three phases and five assured “hits.” The techniques taught by Luke are reliable and effective for performances, eliminating the need for cold reading or guesswork.
Moreover, EI serves as an excellent framework for cold reading, allowing performers to incorporate these techniques confidently. The three-phase routine and the five guaranteed reveals ensure a compelling performance, regardless of the cold reading’s accuracy.
“I wish I had a routine like EI when I was learning cold reading.” — Luke Jermay
