A True Test of ESP In 1930, Dr. Rhine founded the first Parapsychology Lab for E.S.P. testing at Duke University. Nearly a century later, you might have come across his original I.D. card along with E.S.P. testing cards. This sets the stage for a fascinating experiment in mental transference.

You retrieve five E.S.P. cards and Dr. Rhine’s I.D. card from an old envelope. After laying down the I.D. card, you instruct the spectator to mix the five E.S.P. cards behind their back and select three face down. The spectator discards these three, leaving them with two cards.

Emphasizing the significance of their next choice, they present one card and discard the other. When they reveal their chosen card, it displays the STAR symbol. You then point to the I.D. card, suggesting that Dr. Rhine may be sending subliminal messages from beyond the grave. The spectator may be skeptical, but when the I.D. card is turned over, it reveals a drawing of a STAR!

As if that weren’t eerie enough, Dr. Rhine’s favorite saying was, “It was always written in the Stars.” When the discarded cards are revealed, they spell out the word STAR.
