The Enchantment of the 1930s and 40s Carnivals

The 1930s and 40s marked a vibrant era for traveling carnivals across the United States, captivating audiences in small towns throughout the Midwest with their thrilling side shows and games of chance.

One of the most intriguing attractions at these carnivals was the fortune teller’s tent. For just fifty cents, visitors could uncover their future—whether it held love, wealth, or perhaps a hint of danger.

Fortune tellers employed various methods, including crystal balls, tea leaves, and predominantly, tarot cards.

Within the carnival community, it was widely recognized that certain fortune tellers had an uncanny ability to draw in more customers. They seemed to possess an extraordinary intuition about their “clients,” often revealing insights before even flipping a card.

These mystics typically used tarot decks that shared a distinctive design, featuring whimsical clown-like polka dot patterns.

Introducing the Carnie Tarot: we have meticulously recreated the 22 major arcana cards, preserving the essence of the originals. Each card is marked in a unique way, allowing you to identify its orientation and meaning before revealing it.

Crafted from 100-pound stock, these cards are hand-sanded and aged for authenticity. Each set includes a “letter of provenance,” ensuring you know which card is face up and which is face down.

Use them wisely and unlock the secrets they hold…
