Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser – The Magic of J. N. Hofzinser

This PDF showcases the remarkable legacy of Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser, whose desire for his magical apparatus and records to be destroyed was never fulfilled. As a result, much of his work has been preserved. Notably, Ottokar Fischer authored two German books about Hofzinser: Kartenkünste and Zauberkünste. Here, we present Richard Hatch’s authoritative translation of Zauberkünste.

For those interested, we also offer a translation of Kartenkünste titled Hofzinser’s Card Conjuring.

Kartenkünste is dedicated solely to card magic, while Zauberkünste encompasses a broader range of magical effects.

This ebook details over 80 effects crafted by Hofzinser, featuring more than 100 photos and illustrations. Most effects were tailored for intimate performances in Hofzinser’s salon, with over half including his original presentation patter.

Included are Hofzinser’s distinctive cups-and-balls routine, a captivating copper/silver coin transposition, his linking ring routine, “The Word” (an exceptional book test), his famed card rise, and “The Apotheosis of the Rose.” A unique aspect of this ebook is the Appendix, which features excerpts from letters Dr. Hofzinser wrote to two of his students.

The Magic of J. N. Hofzinser contains all content from the original German edition, enriched with new annotations, photographs, illustrations, and a detailed historical introduction.
