“Very Marked Cards”

Here’s the performance:

“Let me share a secret,” you begin. “Many wonder how magicians execute their tricks.” You pull out a card case and display the cards. “Sometimes, we use marked cards.” You show a few cards from a face-up deck. “For instance, here’s the six of spades and the jack of hearts.” You place these cards face-up on the table. “Can you cover them with your hand?”

Next, you reveal two more cards—the two of diamonds and the five of clubs. “The markings can be subtle, often invisible unless you know what to look for and have practiced extensively.” The cards appear ordinary, with no visible markings.

“Let me help you. I’ll use magic to unveil the markings.” With a snap, the back of the five of clubs now shows five large red dots! “I know, it’s tricky to see due to the red ink on red. Let’s clarify…” Another snap, and you turn over the two of diamonds, revealing two large black circles with a “D” for diamonds in the center.

“Much clearer!” You point to the jack under the spectator’s hand. “If you still can’t see the markings, try this…” With two snaps and a clap, you reveal the back of the jack of hearts, now boldly displaying “JACK OF HEARTS” in thick black letters.

“And if that’s still a challenge… you might need an eye exam!” You flip over the six of spades, revealing an eye chart on its back!

This entertaining and engaging effect works wonderfully as a standalone piece or as an opener for a card routine. Perfect for close-up performances, table-hopping, or walk-around magic, and true to the “Auto-Magic” philosophy, it requires no sleight of hand!
