Review of Tres: A Unique Propless Mentalism Routine

Having just completed my reading of Tres, I initially hesitated at the $99 price tag, but I’m thrilled with my investment. This routine is entirely propless and promises to evoke powerful reactions. When executed effectively, it has the potential to be a ‘start your own religion’ experience.

Tres is a fully propless, three-part routine inspired by the ‘PK Touches’ effect. While I’m not deeply versed in the history of such effects, it feels refreshingly original, and the creator acknowledges several other authors in the process.

This routine is bold, reminiscent of performing your first hypnotism show. Designed for stage or parlor settings, it may not deliver the same impact in smaller groups, similar to many hypnotic performances. However, I remain open to being proven wrong. While it’s not hypnotism, it carries a comparable sense of freedom for the performer.

Given its similarities, this routine could complement hypnotism well. I believe it can fit into a magic show, but its true strength might be diminished in that context.

In the unlikely event that it doesn’t succeed—something that can be mitigated with careful volunteer selection—it can be easily downplayed. This is preferable to the potential fallout from revealing an IMP device or electronic gadget, which could jeopardize an entire performance.

Ultimately, the material includes a compelling argument for embracing propless mentalism.

I envision this being performed at larger gatherings, although I don’t see it becoming a staple for non-stage or parlor performers. Nonetheless, it’s intriguing enough to justify the purchase. I can see this becoming a favorite and a strong closer for many performers. This is a limited offering, and I’m delighted with it. I’ll be brainstorming all night on how to incorporate it into my own show!
