Alex Elmsley Lecture by Alex Elmsley

DL

Alex Elmsley, a pivotal figure in card magic, left a lasting legacy when he passed away in 2006. His contributions to the art are irreplaceable, but his insights live on through recorded lectures.

In a unique opportunity, Colin Rose captured an intimate lecture featuring both classic and unpublished material from Elmsley. This content is primarily presented for the first time, distinct from his renowned books and earlier videos.

This lecture offers a deep dive into Elmsley’s thought process, showcasing the plots and techniques that shaped his later work. It’s like having a personal session with the master himself, now available for convenient download.

One of the highlights is an interview segment where Elmsley shares unheard insights about the Elmsley Count, followed by a candid Q&A session.

This download includes two videos: a lecture and a workshop. The workshop features Elmsley discussing various moves, performances without explanations, and an engaging Q&A session, which I found particularly enjoyable.

The lecture covers:

Power Poker: Spectators choose five cards from ten, and you always win. A technique I’m eager to try.

Dream Trick: A spectator discards cards until one remains, and you reveal its identity. The method is clever, though I believe there are more effective approaches.

Ten Plus: A spectator thinks of a card from a fan of ten, and you name it. This effect is fantastic!

Colour Filter: A visually striking effect where you alternate red and black cards, then visually extract the black cards from a handkerchief. It’s impressive!

Kasual Kosky: A simple yet effective switch for a sandwiched card.

Andrews Colour Change: Not my favorite, but it has its merits.

Pinky Steal: A valuable technique, with a variation I’m excited to try.

Three in Hiding: A powerful effect where three spectators hide their chosen cards, and you reveal them despite being turned away. Suitable for intermediate magicians, but worth the effort.

Oyster Shells: A comedic routine involving sunglasses that leads to a clever reveal. Fun and easy to perform.

No-Calc: A clean mathematical trick to identify two cards without calculations. I’m considering adding this to my repertoire.

Cross of Lorayne: A transposition trick that didn’t resonate with me as much.

I highly recommend this lecture; it feels like being in the presence of Mr. Elmsley himself. You won’t be disappointed!
