Docc Hilford – Boudoir Card Reading
Last year, I explored a new approach to question reading techniques, aiming for something straightforward and effective for walk-around performances. This led to the creation of Boudoir Card Reading.
I shared my concept with Brian Curry, a restaurant entertainer from Washington DC, who added his own humorous twist. He remarked, “When I perform this, I can’t do any other tricks; the audience is captivated by the ‘real’ experience I just provided.”
Brian generously contributed his complete script and flawless handling for this routine. The core effect is simple: you present a selection of business cards, and the participant writes down a thought, dream, or question on one. They then insert it back into the stack, and without any physical contact, you reveal the information on their card! The execution is so quick and seamless that even you might be amazed.
Additionally, Brian shared valuable subtleties, drawing from his advanced training with Bob Fitch, ensuring every element of the routine has a theatrical purpose.
Importantly, Boudoir Card Reading requires no special cards or gimmicks—any business card will suffice, and it can be performed standing up without wallets or unnatural movements. There are also intriguing variations, such as using index cards for questions. The complete details of my private reading session are thoroughly explained in the manuscript.
