Asi Wind’s latest creation, Catch 23, challenges the notion of coincidence. Drawing inspiration from Gary Kurtz’s classic chair test, Asi has dedicated seven years to perfecting this modern and mystifying routine.

Ideal for both intimate gatherings and larger performances, Catch 23 fosters a unique bond between the performer and the audience, a connection that few effects can achieve. The Effect:

The performer invites four spectators to the stage and presents five envelopes labeled “1-5.” Each spectator freely chooses an envelope, leaving the performer with one unselected envelope. An audience member then opens this envelope to discover a check that matches the total value determined by the order of the participants’ selections.

Moreover, each volunteer reveals their chosen envelope, which contains a note card highlighting a unique trait about them (e.g., “This will be selected by the only man in glasses”). The performance culminates with the final envelope unveiling the name of the participant who made the selection.
