THE EFFECT: A volunteer stands with feet together and arms extended forward, palms up. Neal instructs them to close their eyes, relax, and visualize two heavy spheres in their hands, which gradually weigh them down. He then tells the volunteer that they will attempt to walk toward him, but they will find it impossible to do so. Once they realize they cannot move, Neal invites them to open their eyes and lower their arms, revealing their newfound freedom of movement.
