I have developed this idea into a full routine because I believe it has significant potential and represents an often-overlooked application of mobile phones in magic and mentalism.

So, what is iMPRESSION? It’s an innovative and casual method to use your smartphone to reveal a thought, word, number, or image. This technique is convenient, requiring no extra props (unless you choose to) since the pen and paper used by the spectator is completely un-gimmicked and can be borrowed.

The best part of this technique is that you can capture a fantastic video of your clean mind reading performance each time you use it. While it’s optional, this feature is a great way to enhance your social media presence. You can perform the effect, record a pure mind reading video, and share it immediately, tagging the spectators to draw them into your social media circles in a fun way. During the tutorial, I discuss effective scripting and pre-show techniques to make these videos appear even more astonishing.

Your participant will attest to the following on video:

• They have freely chosen and written or drawn something that wasn’t seen by anyone (unless they opted to show someone). They placed it in their own pocket.
• You did not set anything up beforehand; they were not instructed to limit their choices or swayed in any way, and they are not a stooge.
• You did nothing sneaky, and there’s no way you could know what they wrote or drew.

You will then reveal the exact information they wrote down or drew without them taking the paper out of their pocket. It appears exactly how mind reading should look.

Of course, there’s a clever method behind this, but it’s straightforward and can be executed in seconds without the need for a reset device or specific wallet.
