Can we truly influence events or decisions? After this captivating demonstration, your audience will certainly have their answer.
A blue-backed card is placed face down in the center of the table, and a spectator will be invited to reveal it at the conclusion of your performance. You won’t touch the card again.
Next, present a red-backed deck, showcasing its unique cards. Allow the spectators to shuffle, cut, and examine the deck freely.
At this point, emphasize that the order of the cards is completely unknown, as the deck has been passed around and shuffled by various spectators. Assure them that you will not manipulate the cards, and the deck will remain in its case to prevent any interference.
Now, hold the deck at your fingertips and draw cards one by one. At any moment, a spectator can say, “STOP!”
As you slowly remove the cards, the spectator may call out “STOP!” whenever they choose. For instance, they might stop at the Queen of Spades.
Show a few additional cards to demonstrate that had they stopped just a moment later, the outcome would have been entirely different. Yet, fate led them to stop at the Queen of Spades. Reveal the remaining deck—no duplicates, no other Queens of Spades!
If the prediction card, visible from the start, matches the card drawn, it’s a true miracle:
- No manipulation was possible.
- The deck was ordinary and shuffled by the spectators.
- The spectator freely chose when to say “STOP!”
Invite the spectator to turn over the prediction card themselves. Amazingly, it is indeed the Queen of Spades! How could this happen?
