Jim Kleefeld, after three decades in education, has embarked on a new journey with his engaging assembly program, Reading is Magic. Designed for students from Kindergarten to 6th grade, this program immerses young minds in the captivating realm of fiction. By intertwining narratives, characters, and magic tricks, Jim honors both classic and contemporary literature. Students will be spellbound as beloved characters come to life through enchanting illusions, including appearances, disappearances, and magical transformations.

Routine 2 – The Billy Goats Gruff: Students will recall key plot details and character traits.
Routine 3 – Caps For Sale: Students will read for specific factual information.
Routine 4 – Alice in Wonderland: Students will understand the significance of following directions.
Routine 5 – Johnny Appleseed: Students will utilize a graphic organizer to summarize story facts.
Routine 6 – Literature Snippet: Students will identify various literary genres and provide examples.
Routine 7 – Betsy Ross and the First Flag: Students will recall information from a non-fiction biography.
In Reading is Magic, Jim conjures a magical sign to assist the Caps for Sale peddler, enables a student to magically choose a book character, and demonstrates the value of non-fiction. The highlight of the performance features the tale of Air-Head Rudy, who becomes enchanted by television but magically regains his passion for reading. As with all of Jim’s shows, expect plenty of humor and active audience participation.
