Here’s what happens: The magician borrows a finger ring from an audience member. The ring is touched to the shoelaces near the toe of the shoe, and it magically links in the middle of the laces with no cover. To remove the ring, the magician visibly plucks the tied bow off the top of the shoe and reattaches the knot where the ring is linked. In an astonishing moment, the shoelaces untie, and the ring is returned to the spectator. The magician can then retie the laces, move the knot back to the top, and even untie them again to prove the knot actually moved.
