Steve Fearson – Stop the Presses

Effect: The magician borrows a newspaper from a spectator and tears it into pieces. After writing a prediction on a separate piece of paper, he hands it to the spectator for safekeeping. A volunteer is blindfolded and asked to shuffle the torn pieces until they decide to stop. Once they stop, the magician provides a sharpie for them to mark a dot on the paper. After removing the blindfold, the spectator reads the word where they placed the dot, which astonishingly matches the magician’s prediction perfectly.

What’s black and white and red all over? A newspaper, of course.

1. You make a secret prediction
2. A word is selected from any unprepared newspaper
3. Your prediction matches the selection EXACTLY!

Many prediction effects rely on gimmicks or require setup, but this one only needs a regular magic marker and an unprepared newspaper.

The newspaper can be borrowed, and the marker can be too. You can even buy a newspaper on the spot or use any you find nearby. It’s truly versatile!
