Shin Lim – The Vanishing
“I have to confess, when I first encountered The Vanishing, I was completely stumped. It drove me both mad and thrilled me, which is what makes this effect truly remarkable. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to master. What you see is exactly what you get—there’s no special editing in this video!” – Paul Gross, Owner of Hocus Pocus.
This versatile utility device enables you to perform astonishing feats, such as making objects disappear or travel from one location to another. It’s lightweight, fits easily in your wallet, and requires no specific clothing. You could even use this gimmick without any clothing if you wished!
Chapter 1: The magician borrows a small object, like a coin or ring. There are no switches involved; the same coin is used throughout. With a gentle wave over the coin, it vanishes effortlessly—no awkward movements or sudden sleights. The coin is completely gone, and the spectator can feel your hands to confirm there’s nothing there. At this point, you can choose to conclude the effect or make the coin reappear in your hand or theirs. You then hand back their signed coin for examination, leaving a lasting impression.
Chapter 2: The magician borrows a Tic Tac box and a Tic Tac. There are no switches or alterations to either the box or the Tic Tac. After placing the Tic Tac inside the box, it visually melts through the bottom and lands in the spectator’s cupped hand. They can immediately inspect both the Tic Tac and the box.
Chapter 3: Using a regular coffee cup, the magician asks the spectator for a dollar bill (or any item that can be crumpled). The cup is placed over the ball, and with no movements, a snap of the fingers makes the ball disappear. You can then seamlessly transition into your regular cups and balls routine or continue using the gimmick for an impactful performance.
