Discover the Secrets of Dai Vernon: The Castle Notebooks Volume One
In 1963, Dai Vernon was honored by The Academy of Magical Arts to become the resident “living legend” at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. This announcement inspired two aspiring close-up magicians, Bruce Cervon and Larry Jennings, to relocate across the country to learn from “The Professor.” Over three years in the early 1960s, they dedicated every moment to studying under Vernon, with Cervon meticulously documenting their lessons.
Cervon’s extensive notes eventually filled fourteen large binders, known among the inner circle as The Castle Notebooks. These coveted documents contained extraordinary secrets and tricks accumulated by Vernon over his remarkable seventy-year career in magic, reserved for only a select few.
Now, for the first time, the legendary Castle Notebooks are being unveiled to the magic community. With the support of Dai Vernon and collaboration from Larry Jennings and Louis Falanga, Bruce Cervon is releasing this treasure trove of knowledge.
Volume One features over fifty card and coin sleights, tricks, and routines, all fully explained within these pages. This material showcases the vintage magic that established Vernon as a legend among magicians, offering expert techniques that can elevate any magician’s reputation. Readers will gain insights into the psychology and thought process known as “The Vernon Touch,” alongside engaging historical anecdotes. The volume also includes rare photographs and memorabilia from The Professor’s personal collection, as well as a biographical essay by Elizabeth Wilson.
Few books are recognized as classics before publication, but this volume is undoubtedly one of them.
