Introduction

In the serene environment of your home or among close friends, performing magic can feel effortless. However, facing a discerning audience can present a different challenge. Many amateur magicians struggle in these situations, and my goal is to help you overcome this hurdle.

I believe anyone can learn to execute magic tricks in an engaging way. With this in mind, I’ve compiled my routines in this book, featuring both classic and original tricks designed to bring joy to your performances for years to come.

This is noted as volume one, and to our knowledge, no volume two exists.

Paul Fleming shares insights on this pamphlet dedicated to coin magic, which includes 18 coin tricks, two flourishes, and a juggling-like item. Spanning 30 pages, it features 131 illustrations that, while small, effectively complement the text. The booklet is well-printed on quality paper and bound with a soft cover. The layout includes double columns on the left and full-width lines on the right, though this format may not enhance clarity, as it separates trick explanations from their effects.

Many of these coin tricks are best suited for close-up performances rather than stage shows, with several ideal for after-dinner entertainment. Notable effects described by Mr. Osborne include Coin Production, where two cards reveal multiple coins; Catch It, where a coin penetrates a napkin over a tumbler; A Double Pass, featuring two coins disappearing into an empty glass; Change It, which transforms a dollar bill into quarters; and Watch It, where a coin travels through fabric into a pocket. Additional tricks include various hand-to-hand coin transfers, along with two flourishes: The Coin Star and The Coin Roll.

While some tricks in Coin Tricks are not new, they are presented with fresh insights. For instance, Coin Fold, utilizing a napkin, was first published in Robert-Houdin’s Secrets of Conjuring and Magic in 1868. Red and Blue is a modern take on the classic Filtration of Five-Franc Pieces, also found in Robert-Houdin’s work. Coins of Sympathy, where four coins magically converge under a card, has been detailed in Downs’ Art of Magic and other texts. Mr. Osborne enhances these traditional tricks with his unique contributions. The only challenging feat appears to be The Tube, which lacks clarity in both text and illustrations.

Quality resources on coin magic are scarce. Countless amateur magicians could greatly benefit from the practical ideas presented in this engaging and informative booklet.
