Darwin Ortiz – The Ephemeral Lecture Notes

Format: PDF

These notes were derived from Darwin Ortiz’s lecture at the International Magic Convention in London in 2007.

The lecture features four impressive effects:

  • Beyond Collecting: Three cards are chosen and lost in the deck. The four aces magically appear face up, and moments later, the selected cards materialize between them. A perfect faro shuffle is required.
  • Passing Through: Four of a kind are hidden in one half of the deck, which is shuffled by a spectator. The performer turns the other half face up and shuffles the two halves together, revealing the four of a kind face down in the center of the face-up half, having been caught in the process.
  • Hard Target: Two spectators select cards and return them to the deck in a remarkably fair manner. The performer shuffles the two red jacks into the deck, trapping the selections between them. He then tosses the jacks into the deck, catching the second selection between them.
  • Test Your Luck: A spectator names any card and then inserts a random card into the deck, ultimately locating the named card in the process.

The term “Ephemeral” in the title signifies that these notes were exclusively available during the lecture.
