BOB by Luke Jermay
Experience Luke Jermay’s masterfully crafted confabulation routine, which artfully blends various techniques to deliver an impressive prediction effect. This performance incorporates mechanical forces, psychological influences, double writing, reverse-engineered predictions, planted predictions, and bolstering techniques. Throughout the routine, the performer only needs to double write three times, cleverly disguised as writing other information, effectively eliminating the time delays typically associated with double writing.
It is assumed that purchasers of this ebook are familiar with the classic ‘Confabulation’ routine. Consequently, Luke allows performers the freedom to choose their wallet and prediction style, using a wallet and envelope as generic examples in the effect description.
Effect:
The performance begins:
“Despite my rough exterior and prison tattoos, I must confess—I have a weakness for pulp romance novels. I adore them, especially the works of Susan Grant, the queen of cheesy romance. One of her books, ‘Rough Love – a rogue gentleman has weathered stormy seas for too long,’ is particularly delightful. I should revisit it.”
The performer dons a pair of reading glasses and pretends to read the book. After a moment, he adds:
“Now probably isn’t the best time.”
With a smile, he sets the glasses aside and continues:
“Before each show, I sneak backstage to read a bit of a romance novel. I know it sounds silly, but it’s true. As I step onto the stage, I scan the audience for a woman who embodies the female lead in a romance novel. However, finding her is not as straightforward as it seems.”
The performer retrieves an index card from his pocket and explains:
“Before the show, I let my current romance novel open to a random page and jot down the page number on this index card. Ladies in the audience, please think of a number between 1 and 300, as this book contains 300 pages.”
He pauses, making eye contact with a man in the audience, and quips:
“Sir – I appreciate the attention, but you don’t need to think of a number. I just don’t see you as the female lead tonight.”
After collecting a few numbers from the audience, he continues:
“I wrote down a number on this index card, which is between 20 and 30. If you thought of a number in that range, please stand. I wrote down 27. Everyone else, please take a seat unless you were thinking of 27.”
The performer approaches the remaining standing lady and hands her the romance novel.
“Tonight, you are the leading lady, the heart of our story. But before you make any choices, I want to show you something special.”
He opens his wallet to reveal an envelope adorned with a heart and an arrow. The performer continues:
“Miss, what is your name?”
After she responds, he takes a pen from his jacket and writes her name inside the heart on the envelope. He then places the envelope back in his wallet, which he tucks into his jacket pocket. Inviting the spectator onstage, he adds:
“Together, we will craft our very own romance novel tonight. As any Susan Grant fan knows, love stories don’t unfold in Milwaukee or Long Island; they take place in enchanting locales like New York, Paris, or Russia—places filled with breathtaking views and iconic landmarks for our characters to meet and reflect on their surroundings.”
The performer produces a small notepad and pen, continuing the narrative.
