Effect 1: The participant shuffles a deck of cards and places it on the table. You take out two £5 notes from your wallet before anything else, stating that you will wager £10 on the outcome. The participant can clearly see that there are no other £5 notes in your wallet, nor anything written on the £10s or £20s inside. They turn over the top card of the deck – it’s the Jack of Spades. You reveal the two fivers – one has ‘Jack’ written on it, and the other has ‘Spades’.

No switches of the card or notes occur. The deck can be fully examined (no duplicates or gimmicks), and most importantly, you are using your regular wallet, not a gaffed one. Yes, that’s correct – your standard wallet.

Effect 2: This effect mirrors the first, but without a deck – just a thought-of card! The participant names a card, which is then written on the back of the fivers.
