The Mentalist, blindfolded or with his back turned, invites a spectator to think of a card and draw it from the deck, along with seven other cards that she will shuffle herself.

She will then split the cards into two piles of four, choosing to turn one pile face up and place it either above or below the other before handing it to the Mentalist. Meanwhile, she secretly decides to play the role of either “Honest” or “Lying,” which will dictate her responses to three questions posed by the Mentalist. The audience will be informed of her choice through a subtle gesture: a raised thumb for “Honest” or a lowered thumb for “Lying.”

The Mentalist will ask her three times if she sees her chosen card, mixing the eight cards between each question to keep the arrangement unpredictable. Ultimately, without ever seeing the cards, he will perform a final manipulation that aligns all the cards in the same direction. He will then hand them back to the spectator, who will reveal that all eight cards are face up.

Through concentration, the Mentalist will effortlessly identify the selected card, despite never having viewed any of the cards!
