Peter Duffie – Cardeceits
Format: PDF
A Pain in the Ace: A selected card is pushed into the deck, only to rise back to the top. After flipping over the top card, which turns out to be an Ace, the deck is cut, burying the face-up Ace. When the deck is spread, all four Aces appear face up in the center, with one card face down—revealing the chosen card.
The ROLEX Gang: Four Aces are displayed, and a random card is placed between them, only to vanish. Another random card is added, and it too disappears. A spectator selects a card, likely a Queen, which stubbornly refuses to vanish. Instead, the Aces transform into the four Kings, her chaperons!
Garden Path II: A spectator selects a card, which is placed face down on the table. They deal three packets of three cards, discarding the rest. The top card of each packet is turned face up, and the performer attempts to divine the selection but fails. When the packets are combined, tapping them with the selection causes the three reversed cards to change into the selection’s three mates.
Inside Out: This effect, a variation of ‘Inside Job’ from Alternative Card Magic, requires no significant setup, making it accessible for performance.
New Hue View: An evolution of my previous effect “A Piece of Fred,” inspired by an unpublished concept from Fred Robinson and a Charles Jordan Riffle Shuffle principle. This is best suited for performances in front of fellow magicians.
Between Queens: The two black Queens are placed face up in the deck. After spectators memorize the top and bottom cards, the deck is turned face down and spread, revealing one face-down card between the Queens—one selection. The other selection is retrieved from your pocket.
Bad Influence: Four red cards are placed next to four black cards. A spectator chooses a pile and selects one card, which is returned to the packet. The piles are combined, and the spectator eliminates all but one card, which turns out to be their selection. The remaining cards are revealed as all red, making the selection the only card of its color!
More Convivial: A card is selected and returned to the deck. After three failed attempts to find it, you perform magic with the three cards you did locate. Ultimately, the chosen card appears unexpectedly.
Card of Darkness: A face-up incorrect card transforms into the selection, influenced by the powers of darkness.
Deal Steal Collectors: The Walton Collectors technique allows cards to be dealt off the deck immediately upon being placed on top, utilizing the Benzais Deal Steal.
Counting the Maze Way: Inspired by Gene Maze’s effect, four hands of cards are dealt, each numbered 1-4. Spectators count to their respective cards, revealing four Aces—an extension of the original concept.
Mini-Hellraiser: A fast-paced Elevator routine that concludes in the spectator’s hands. This is a condensed version of my Hellraiser routine from Obsession, ideal for performances without a tabletop.
An Imposition: Random cuts of the deck reveal the suit and value of a selected card. The spectator locates the card themselves without further manipulation, offering a fresh take on my earlier “The Impromptu Imposition.”
Crime Suspect: A spectator successfully identifies their card without any clues.
Three Down – One to Go: After a card is selected and lost in the deck, the spectator cuts it into three face-up piles. They may have cut to their selection, but they must not reveal it. You remove the top card from each pile, mixing them as you confirm one is their selection. After replacing the cards, you spread the deck to show their card face up, without any secret reversals!
Suit Yourself Too: A variation on Roy Walton’s “Suit Yourself,” inspired by Karl Fulves’ Self-Duplicating Set-up.
Ulti-Print! Show four cards with backs but no faces. One card is reversed, acting as the magic catalyst. When it prints a face, the other three cards follow suit. All four cards are counted, showing both sides, with no extras involved. Originally released as a packet trick in the 1990s.
