The Black Box

For years, I have been perfecting a practical and effective switching device to replace the traditional pocket switch. Recently, I introduced this innovative switch, which simplifies the process and enhances various effects that depend on a deck switch.

This utility device is inspired by one of my early magical influences. Back in 1977, I had the privilege of witnessing Fred Kaps’s captivating performance of Scotty York’s brilliant Razor Card routine. Ken Brooke was eager to market this effect, but Kaps cherished it too much to share. As a result, this charming routine has rarely been seen over the decades, primarily due to its reliance on a pocket deck switch—though I did perform it on television a few times.

In addition to my interpretation of the Razor Card routine, I have created two other impactful routines utilizing The Black Box. One is inspired by Dean Dill’s remarkable Blizzard, which employs a unique switching device and has become my favorite application of The Black Box. The other is an enhanced version of a previously published effect, now improved with the use of The Black Box.
